+Not used SimSig for some time. Existing files has been deletd by Norton because of a virus. I ran Bristol (easy) previously which is an .exe file but SimSig Loader does not appear to recognise. Simsig refresher quotes I/o error 1784
Can anyone point me in the right direction and help please?
Thanks David

David, Bristol is still a .exe simulation and is downloaded via the downloads area. Most other simulations are run via the SimSig loader, and downloaded via pressing check for updates in the loader application.

If you are having issues make sure you download the latest system files from the website, and do a fresh install.

Norton often comes up with false positives on software that doesn't have a large install base. SimSig does not contain any viruses of any sort so I would recommend disabling Norton during the install and then whitelist the newly installed files. A Google search will tell you how to do this.

Norton is a pain in the 'side for small software developers like SimSig. It does not appear to make the distinction between unknown software, and software with a virus. That then leads my customers to believe my software has viruses, which, I would hope, it does not.

Norton is overzealous and unhelpful.

David - there are tons of alternatives to Norton, which I would never use for the reasons given, and many others. My sweet spot is a combination of Malwarebytes, MS Windows Defender, and, last but far from least, common sense.

Mmmm. According to a computer magazine that I read, using Windows Defender alone is a bit risky. They recommend using a second AV program alongside, which they say you can do without any conflicts. Worth thinking about perhaps as there are one or two good free ones.

Everything that you make will be useful - providing it's made of chocolate.
