I've noticed that when I have two or more sims chained the autosave feature sometimes only seems to work on one of the chained sims.

Currently experienced this with Liv St and WA chain (sims and loader fully up to date).

I’m glad you said this because I actually experienced this a while back and thought it was just my imagination! It happened with Lancing chained to Brighton; Lancing sometimes didn’t autosave. Brighton was the main sim every time. I thought it might’ve had something to do with me using the speed controls (i.e. the f and n buttons on the keyboard).

Mark.

@Gwasanaethau: I actually tried that myself not long ago and I think this happens because the sims can get slightly out of sync timewise, especially when running at maximum speed in fast forward mode.
Eventually (I think usually on the full minute, or whenever you're pausing the sim?), the master sim sends out a time check, which means the slave sims will adjust their clocks accordingly. If they were fast, this actually means that that snapshot would be saved again as the clock jumps back, while conversely if they were slow, the save might be skipped as the clock jumps forward and slightly past the full minute where the save is triggered.

However so far I only noticed this during fast forwarding. When running at normal speed, the clock drift usually seems to be small enough to not cause any trouble there.

I'm not so sure Jan has the full answer...

I generally run chained sims at the SLOWEST possible speed and I'm still experiencing the problem with only one sim making autosaves. With my recent Liv St - WA chain everything was ok for the first 4h40m of the timetable then Liv St stopped making autosaves.

If it helps, Liv St was the master sim and WA the slave.

Have also experienced the issue with all three Rugby sims chained.

Are you sure that the missing saves are not hidden?

Barry
That thread seems to apply to standalone sims. The sims I have experienced this issue with are all loader sims. Also, why would the saves suddenly switch save location after 4hours ?

Nevertheless, I will check and report back.

This just gets weirder and weirder !!

I looked in the file locations mentioned in the other thread but the missing snapshots weren't there. Then decided to try the last ditch attempt of searching my hard drive for .ssg files. Lo and behold it finds the missing snapshots but when I go to the specified location I can't see them !!

Hi Barry,

Sorry not replied sooner - been busy enjoy the new Manchester sims. To answer your question, yes I do have admin rights as it's my own personal laptop and I'm the sole user. In any case, I don't understand why everything works fine for 4h 40m sim time then all of a sudden the saves go missing.

Hi guys,

Sorry to butt in but I've often wondered about this since I've got into chaining Liv St and WA (and other combinations - Cardiff for example), is there a way of saving the game so it can all be chained again at a later date and begin again from where it was left off?

Cheers,
Joe

Other than pausing, saving each simulation manually and then un-pausing, no.

Coincidentally, I had added a chained save facility as an idea for the wishlist (#18297) a few weeks ago.

Other than that, at least for me the automatic snapshots worked quite well even in chained mode [1], although unless you've set them to a very short interval you probably still want to do some manual saving as well in order to avoid having to backtrack too much until the last snapshot when resuming a session, in which case what Steamer said for the time being.

[1] At least when not fast-forwarding, but if you're mad enough to run the Cardiff Trio single-handed, you probably won't have any desire for fast-forwarding anyway once traffic picks up in the morning.
