I have three timetables in various states of progress for the Oxford simulation. They are:
1978 - now available to download. Latest version is 1.1
1982 - in preparation. will be at least 3 weeks.
1986 - complete and submitted to SimSig for approval

In each case, the 2000 era simulation is required and some "work-rounds" are required to get things to work. All the timetables DO work, but require considerable care in use of the down goods/carriage line for loco-hauled trains which run round there. Even BR had some problems with limited accommodation in the down carriage sidings in 1978. One down ECS working was timetabled to halt at Hinksey Yard for 10 minutes until the previous run-round move had cleared.

It seems that the guidance information in the 1978 timetable's "general" tab is being missed by some users, so it's attached below. Please especially note the restrictions on using the DCS roads. Some or all of DCS2-4 start the simulation containing trains (varies by day).

The developers have only coded against a specification for facilities required in 2000, which doesn't require loco run-rounds, so any simulation based earlier than that requires work-arounds to function. No criticism of the developers: they have produced a great simulation.

Work-arounds required for using the 2000 simulation's restricted facilities:
1) All moves timetabled for run-round in the DCS MUST use the DGL to arrive and DCS road 1 for the loco move.
2) DCS roads may be used for trains which reverse in the DCS without a run-round BUT only ONE of DCS 2-4 can be used at any one time. Trains termionating at end of their duties can be routed to all of 2-4, changing the siding using the switch provided.
3) Light engines for Oxford loco fuelling point must route to platform 2, thence toward the headshunt using Loco Sdgs GF.

Differences between 1978 and 2000:
a) the UPL south of Oxford is a UGL and not accessible for trains conveying passengers
b) Engineers' sidings south of Oxford are carriage sidings
c) South Yard is in use. Trains scheduled to call there are timetabled to halt in the 2000 UPL. Trains originating/ terminating at South Yard run to Hinksey.
d) Bletchington cement works does not exist. Only 1 train, 8V33, is affected. It is most unwise to allow 8V33 to run early.

If you haven't already done so (I am catching up on 4 days' worth of posts and emails!), can you open a new thread with what you need please? I can't guarantee all will be done as there were differences in the layout back then but I can at least check.

Geoff - apologies for adding to your workload: not my intention. The issue re DCS2-4 was raised in a thread back in July. According to a post in that thread, the issue was raised as Mantis 17595. I will raise another thread with that and other items related to using the 2000 era trackplan for pre-2000 timetables.

A new version of the 1978 timetable (1.2) has been submitted to SimSig to resolve the crew change issues which have occurred since loader 4.6.5 was released. The opportunity has also been taken to tidy up a few other loose ends too. Any bugs, please let me know either here or (preferably) by private message to WHATLEP using the SimSig message facility.

The 1986 timetable (not yet made public) will get the same treatment over the next 24 hours, after which I can return to coding the 1983 timetable. It will have to be 1983 rather than 1982 as the latter involves multiple simultaneous run-round movements in the DCS which the year 2000 simulation cannot handle. Maybe one day...

UPDATE 30/11/2017 - both 1978 and 1986 versions now available. Both are compatible with loader 4.6.5.

Oxford 1978 timetable V1.3 has been sent for Moderator approval. It addresses several issues users had found difficult. Crew change compatible with loader 4.6.5. Extract from the description text below:

V1.3 - 01/12/2017 revised DCS seeding locations and added text in seeded trains descriptions. Loco change on 5A08 removed to remove requirement for multiple shunters (loco used for ECS in UCS). 5A47 stables in Engineers Sidings (West Mid Sdgs) rather than DCS (removes potential conflict in DCS around 12.10)

UPDATE 20.00 DEC 1ST - V1.3 NOW AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD

Another timetable is now available for Oxford. This one is based on workings for September 1983. It's a nice, straightforward one with less complexity in ECS workings than 1978 and 1986. It's also the one for which most research materials have been available, though that has served to show how inaccurate/ inconsistent original data sources can be....

Anyway, I hope users enjoy 1983. Any bugs, or problems, please shout out!

Three Oxford timetables have just been submitted to the Mods for approval. They are:

1978 Weekdays V2.0 - a complete rewrite and upgrade of the timetable originally created in late 2017. The earlier timetable was my first try at a SimSig timetable and is not up to my current standards. Coupled with better information on stock workings and use of Oxford's carriage sidings, it was long overdue a rewrite. The simulation was ready some months ago, but held back as I hoped that bugs identified in 2017 in the 2000-era representation would be addressed. These would enable correct usage of the Down Carriage Sidings via the north ground frame and the single lines to/from Claydon LNE Jn and Morris Cowley. Alas, it seems that there is no likelihood of this happening any time soon, so, though much improved technically, the simulation is offered with the same work-rounds and issues as V1.3.

1979 Weekdays V1.0 - a very different timetable to 1978, both due to changes in train workings (for better stock utilisation) and use of a winter timetable, rather than the summer one used in 1978's. There is more freight traffic at the expense of a handful of summer dated passenger trains. This timetable continued to be used in 1980/81 with very minor changes.

1979 Botley Road Monday V1.0 - a special timetable based on the Monday in October 1979 when a rebuild of Botley Road bridge went badly wrong, engineers' posessions over-running by several hours. The 2000 era MUST be used for this timetable. Four engineers' trains will block all lines through Oxford except platform 1 and the UPL south of Oxford until approximately 10.00. Although the UPL was a goods-only loop in 1979, passenger trains had to use it. The line's switch and crossing work was clamped & scotched for the through route and South Yard closed for traffic temporarily. Train 7O61 was diverted to Hinksey and did not drop or pick up traffic. All other trains ran as intended, though with delays.

Thank you for the revamped 1978 TT Peter.

I'm currently running the Monday TT and have come across an issue with light engine 0A02 going to the loco sidings after detaching from 1A02 at Oxford at 0150. I've signalled him towards the shunt spur but he calls up from OX150 GPL signal stating incorrect route, not booked via the shunt spur.

Hi Phil - it's a simulation bug rather than a timetable error, I'm afraid. One of the ones I hoped would get fixed during 2018 and delayed V2 waiting for fixes. This bug prevents access to the depot via the normal route (whether from platform 2 or anywhere else). Instead, you have to route locos via platform 2 and the Loco Spur GF. Coming out of the depot via the proper route works OK.

At the risk of being smart, the issue is listed as item (3) in the "work-arounds" section of the instructions on the timetable's General tab.

I did read the workarounds before I started but that one obviously didn't sink in. I tried to release the Loco Spur GF but it wouldn't release so this was my second option. It's been a while since I've run Oxford so I may have become rusty and possibly overlooked something.

Phil - there is a hidden "nasty" in the simulation around the Loco Spur GF. The catch point immediately ahead of platform 2's starter has to be set to reverse for the ground frame to release. Depending on what last passed over that catch point, you may have to set it manually to reverse. Life would be much simpler if the correct route was programmed into the simulation!

That's what caught me out Peter. I set the loco back into the platform from OX150, which left those traps in Reverse, and the GF released ok. 0A02 is now in the loco sdgs.

Hello there,

I've just finished a session of chaining the Oxford- and SwinDid-1978 timetables together. I don't really know if they are even intended to be chained, but I will just post the inconsistencies I've noticed while playing - and after that - while comparing the timetables. Some of them might be related to the Oxford-TT, others to the SwinDid-TT. I hope you don't mind if I just post everything into this thread and leave it you to decide if anything - and which one - has to be changed. Anyway, thank you very much for making those nice timetables - it was really good fun! :D

(Game Day: Thursday)
used TT-versions: Oxford = V2.0 (30/01/2019), SwinDid = V1.1 (05/01/2021)

Different start/end times: Oxford = 00:00 - 24:00, SwinDid = 03:30 - 25:00
(I played Oxford alone between 00.00 and 03.30, then connected Oxford to SwinDid at 03.30.)

- Many class 1 and 4 - 6 trains have different train types, lengths or max speed in the timetables. (see attached list). I don't know whether all of them are bugs or some (e.g. different max speed) are even intentional.
- Many trains with same headcode get assigned to the wrong one when they're entering from the other chained simulation. Here's a quite bad one (18:28): When 5A09-1825 (18.24 Didcot - Oxford ECS) enters Oxford from SwinDid, it got 5A09-1909's TT assigned. 5A09-1909 (19.09 Moreton-in-Marsh - Oxford ECS) therefore became marked as entered, didn't enter from Moreton-in-Marsh on its planned time anymore and was missing as joining portion for 5M60 waiting at platform 3.

Here's a list of bugs and chaining inconsistencies on specific trains I noticed while playing and by comparing both TTs:

6M21FO (only) is ticked to run 'as required' in SwinDid-TT, but not in Oxford-TT (so might not run at all at Oxford if game day is Friday)
4M46, 6M24 are ticked to run 'as required' in SwinDid-TT, but not in Oxford-TT
03:38 In Oxford-TT, 6B41 runs from Banbury Rd to Bristol via SwinDid, but in SwinDid-TT it should enter from Appleford Sidings
06:32 6M35 (03.52 Fawley - Longport) is missing in Oxford-TT
07:07 01.38 WFO Spondon / 02.07 TThO Drakelow - Fawley is called 6O56 in Oxford-TT, but 6O58 in SwinDid-TT
07:16 8A86-0716 (06.40 Reading - Bicester COD) is missing in SwinDid-TT and therefore won't appear on Oxford when chained to SwinDid
07:25 7M44 (05:*5MThO Old Oak Common - Wolverton) has different origin departure times in descripton: 05:25 in Oxford, 05:35 in SwinDid (also, is that additional 'ECS' in SwinDid-TT really correct? 7V06 (11.15MThO Wolverton - Old Oak Common (ECS)) also contains that 'ECS' in SwinDid-TT...)
07:35 6M29's descriptions have a typo somewhere on its destination: Oxford-TT = Defford Colliery, SwinDid-TT = Desford Colliery
08:32 04.50 Bescot - Eastleigh is called 7O54 in Oxford-TT, but 6O54 in SwinDid-TT. Perhaps it should change its headcode to 6O54 at Oxford U&DPL.
08:44 6V29 (05.00 Hoo Jn - Oxford South Yd) does not exist in Oxford-TT
08:59 1A77 (08.53 Oxford - Paddington) does not exist in SwinDid-TT
09:13 In Oxford-TT, there's 3 trains 2V99 (Banbury - Paddington): 2V99-0801, -0831 and 1958. In SwinDid, there's only 2 trains 2V99: 2V99-0831 and -2033. 2V99-0901 is probably missing in SwinDid-TT. Additionally, when duplicating 2V99-0831 to run as -0901 half an hour later to leave Didcot at 09:21 and arrive at Reading at 09:50, it's blocking 1A79's path to pass Didcot East Jn at 09:29 on RL and pass Reading at 09:41. ML seems to be clear for 1A79 at that time.
09:15 4A24 (08.05 Didcot Yd - Oxford) is booked to stay at Oxford Dock from 08:45 to 09:45. But in Oxford-TT, the train should be only 104 m long (Train category 'Cl 47 + 4 GUVs'), while in SwinDid-TT it's booked to be 223m long (Train category 'Parcels (max 70mph)'). Therefore it is far too long for the Dock and blocking the point to P1 as it uses the length from the SwinDid-TT.
11:10 2A17-1104 (11.04 Oxford - Paddington) in Oxford-TT is called 2A19-1107 in SwinDid-TT
11:55 6O76 (11.52 Oxford South Yard - Hoo Jn) is missing in Oxford-TT and therefore won't appear on SwinDid when chained to Oxford
14:10 6O75MO and MX in Oxford-TT both have 05:49 as origin departure time in description, while their former trains 7O75 have 06:53 on MO and 05:49 on MX. In SwinDid-TT, there's only one 6O75 which tells 06:53 as origin departure time.
14:50 12.48 Southampton - Coatbridge FLT is called 4S59 in SwinDid-TT, but 4S89 in Oxford-TT
17:14 2B48's destination (according to descriptions) in SwinDid-TT is Worcester SH, but Moreton-in-Marsh in Oxford-TT
19:25 6V49 (14.44MO/ThO Fawley - South Yard) is missing in SwinDid-TT and therefore won't appear on Oxford when chained to SwinDid
19:30 14.35 Aintree - Southampton FLT is called 4O83 in Oxford-TT, but 4O93 in SwinDid-TT
19:39 19.20 Oxford - York parcels is called 4E06 in Oxford-TT, but 4E05 in SwinDid-TT
19:41 Different descriptions in 6V24's TTs: '17.10MX Northampton / 17.56MX Bletchley - Westbury' (Oxford), '17,46MX Bletchley - Westbury' (SwinDid - there's even a comma on its origin departure time)
22:03 2V60's description in Oxford-TT is 20.40 Birmingham NS - Reading, but 20.00 Birmingham Moor St - Reading in SwinDid-TT
22:10 6E34-2143's (21.43 Morris Cowley - Parkeston) stopping position at Oxford U&DPL is "NX", but its engine has to run round, which means it's overhanging signal OX75 after joining.
23:12 6A41's description in SwinDid-TT is 22.55 Bristol Parkway - Appleford Sdgs, but according to Oxford's 6A41 it should go on to Banbury Rd Sidings..?
23:23 4O63 (18.35 Leeds - Southampton FLT) in Oxford-TT is called "4063" (Zero!) in SwinDid-TT!
23:50 2A48's description in SwinDid-TT is 21.59 Paddington - Banbury, but Paddington - Oxford in Oxford-TT (and berthes in Oxford P2, maybe because Oxford-TT ends at 2400)
24:05 2A81's description in Oxford-TT is 00.01 Oxford - Paddington, but Oxford - Didcot in SwinDid-TT (and ends in Didcot P5 to form 2A80 00.22 Didcot - Oxford). Seeded 2A81MX in Oxford-TT at TT-Start is described as Oxford - Didcot.
24:10 6M56 has different departure times and destinations in Oxford-TT (02.15 to Mantle Lane) and SwinDid-TT (00.10 to Kingsbury)
