Nearly 3 years later than the original opening date and no doubt it will cost a lot more too!

Not really surprised to be honest. I worked in the Construction industry for 25 years and I can't think of a single project that was delivered on time. On most, we were still commissioning the building after the client had occupied it!

The problem is that unless something's complicated it's not "modern".

Here, north of the Haggis Line, we have an interesting view on project completion, though this is off (rail) topic.

My wife and I walked across the Queensferry Crossing on 3 Sep 17, and the bridge was officially opened by HM the Queen on 4 Sep 17 in the presence of our FM, "Wee Nicola". For ten months after the "opening", and possibly more, we had overnight lane restrictions, so that the bridge could be properly "finished". However, it did open "on time and under budget". Pity they couldn't have such a fiction on Crossrail!

Trivial delay compared with Thameslink 2000.

Must be a 'rolling' programme then. (pun intended)

Funny how everyone forgets HS1 opened on time and within budget. But then that was perhaps a bit too 'old railway' for the propagandists to acknowledge.

Pity you let your political bias get in the way of a tremendous job of engineering. I guess if it was built by any other government there would have been no snagging issues. Also I see you omit the fact that electrification of much of the central belt has been completed on time on budget. I am sure " wee Nicola" will be well pleased.

and free to use unlike the Humber, Dartford or Severn crossings. (Scottish taxation differences aside). I was really impressed with it when I was up there recently.

Another couple of years wont hurt - I remember going to Paddington station many years ago to see a mock up of the proposed class 341 Crosrail trains. I picked up this leaflet at the time.
