I am confused. Me and my friends want to play together in SimSig, but we aren't sure how the Multiplayer works. Can someone give us step by step instructions so we can do it together.

Have you looked at the Wiki and read the section about Hosting? Once you have taken that on board, perhaps you could come back if you are still having problems.

We tried and read through the wiki, but everything confuses us. Can someone give us step by step instructions on the complicated wiki and what to do?

Before we go any further can you confirm that you have the user name and password for your router so that you can go into the user interface and modify the settings to create the port forwarding.

Having just had a look at the WIKI I think it could be clearer.

Does whoever is going to be the host know how to set up networking details from the SimSig loader screen?

You need to run a SimSig server. When you get to that screen in the loader, what options do you have?

Map selection, then timetable selection, scenario type, then the networking details at the end.

So which is the screen where you are asked to run a SimSig server?

If you are the host you need to start a new simulation as normal, select your timetable and any other options, including pause simulation.

When you get to the last page you will see a check box for running as server - enable this box and ensure the port 50505 is checked..

Then give your friends the details the simulation, your external IP address and port, they should be able to connect to you if you've got your port forwarding correct.

Payware simulations will only allow multiplay if you have the license for that particular sim, Freeware sims will allow you to have a multiplay session.

The host needs to give the people joining his/her public IP. The host can find their public IP by clicking here.

To set up port forwarding, the host will also need to know their local IP. This can be found in the bottom left corner of the screen where you enable a server.

What if we use a port forwarding device that does the port forwarding for us?

You'll need to refer to the instructions of whatever software you're using to do that...

When you say nothing has worked, where does it stop working?

If whoever is being the host has told their router to forward port 50505 (the default primary port for SimSig) to their device, then that person starts the game and sets it up as a server with the port that they've forwarded.

The client(s) needs the external IP address (not an IP starting with 192 or 10, see melds post for a handy link) and the port numbers. when they start SimSig, they select the join multiplayer, select the sim that has been hosted and enters the details

Just to check, you are trying to join the same sim, and if you click on the about in sim, you are both using the same loader and sim version?

It says "server has disconnected you" and that the connection had failed
We are both on the same sim and the same version, yes.

Is the port showing as open when the sim is open? The host (The person running the sim) should try the above link, enter their IP and the port being used and hit "GO".
