Edinburgh sim - no TT Analysis and not exporting 11/09/2019 at 20:00 #120355

Hello all,

Currently working on some 2006 Scottish scenario's for Railworks, and paid for the Edinburgh sim as I thought it was worth it for the timetable info from the supplied 2006 WTT.

Usually I do a TT Analysis as I have done for Central Scot so I can see the timings at locations easier.

I tried doing this for the Edinburgh sim but it didn't export a text file. I looked in Program Files (x86)/Simsig which is where it's installed and runs from, and looked in there and the Edinburgh folder and wasn't in there. I did a Windows search and it couldn't find it. I tried it again and still no file.

So I tried the Arrivals/Departures button where it generates a list in a arrdep.txt file, not quite what I wanted but it would do, however it didn't even make one of these, not to be found anywhere and Windows couldn't find it in a search either.

I lastly tried the 'export timetable' to see if that would do it, and a pop up told me it had exported the timetable, and it didn't do it.

Is is possible to get any files exported? I can do what I need with the sim and timetable editor open, it's just a rather long process as there's a many entry / exit points to go through to find out what trains pass, say Edinburgh Park, in what order of time.

Or if someone is able to export the TT Analysis for the supplied 24hr 2006 timetable, could someone send it to me on here or e-mail me at james37611(AT)hotmail(DOT)com (Replace AT with @ and DOT with .)

Thank you,

James.

Edinburgh being one of the last few pre-loader sims installs itself in Program Files as you have identified. However in windows versions newer than Vista programs (other than installers) are no longer allowed to write files to program files, and when they try to windows redirects the files to a so-called "virtual store". On windows 10 this is located at "C:\Users\Your Username Here\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\SimSig\Edinburgh" I'm sure others may be able to direct you to where this folder is on windows 7 or vista if that is what you are currently using, but the path is similar.

Ah I was unaware of that thank you!

I have had a look at that path in Windows 7, I've got as far as the C:\Users\your name here\ bit, couldn't find the AppData folder, but googled where it is and it appears to be hidden.

Found the files now, thank you ever so much!

For reference for anyone else, and me in case I forget in the future (!) I found out if there is no AppData you have to go to the control panel, go to Appearance and Personalization, Folder Options click on the View tab and under 'Hidden files and folders' select 'Show hidden files, folders and drives' then click apply and the folder appears.

Thank you again for pointing me in the direction!

Thank you, so much, for explaining the reasons for the "Virtual Store" folder. I had no seen it set out as clearly as you have done.

Written from Edinburgh, thanks.
