I'd like to chain two sims on the same computer, and I found the FAQ page. However, I can't get 2 sims to run at the same time. I create the Master sim, but when I try to create the slave sim it won't let me start a second sim without quitting the first. Am I missing something?

When you say "it won't let me", what exactly is happening. What messages or dialogue boxes are appearing? Screen shots might help.

I regularly do chaining on my laptop even when offline (e.g. on a plane). There's certainly nothing in the core code intended to prevent it.

As Clive said, ideally we need to know exactly what you've been trying to do, but this almost sounds as if you're trying to start the second sim from inside the first sim by using "File -> New Simulation". This will indeed terminate the currently running simulation instance.

Instead, just launch a second Simsig instance from the start menu/desktop shortcut/wherever you're launching Simsig from in the first place.

Two million people attempt to use Birmingham's magnificent rail network every year, with just over a million of them managing to get further than Smethwick.

Yes, that was exactly what I was doing. When I started a second Sigsim instance I got then to chain.

On a secondary note, is there an easy way to tell which timetables can be chained?

Any timetables can be chained, you just might not like the results.

There's no technical meaning for "can be chained", so you just need to look in the documentation for each timetable which, hopefully, will show you.

Generally the "groundhog" timetables are chainable. The most common groundhog one is usually identified by the date 2009-10-15. A more recent one is January 2019 but that doesn't cover many sims at the moment.

As for starting a second instance, it sounds like you've sorted it, but perhaps for others: in Windows 10 (possibly earlier versions too), once you have a running instance on the taskbar at the bottom of the screen, clicking the icon again will just bring that application to the front. To run a second instance, I right click on the icon, then right click again on SimSig Loader.
