My name is Andrew, and I'm totally new to SimSig. I'm running it on Ubuntu Linux using 'PlayOnLinux', and as far as I can tell it appears to work fine. As it is new to me I don't (as yet) have much of a feel for it. Hopefully this will change in the coming weeks ... .
I do all my SimSig on linux as well. You might find the need to enable the "Legacy Train List" option in the options window, if right clicking on trains in the train list doesn't work.

Wine Gecko explicitly does not support the right click menu. To get it working requires the MSIE dll which introduces other bugs (I forget which), I need to give it another look at some point...

Any recommendations for how to start out for a newbie would be gratefully received.

Royston is probably the best sim to start with Gary.

Yes stick to the smaller simulations to begin with until you feel comfortable with them and then graduate up to the bigger sims

For smaller simulations, I'd recommend something like Oxted and Aston when you grow out of Royston, which shouldn't take long. The former is a whole single standalone panel box in real life and featured a good example of single line and small terminal working, while the latter is a bite-sized introduction to both ARS and absolute block. Both are donationware(i.e. unlimited like Royston is) too.

Hi there. A newbie with no signalling experience here but really enjoying the problem solving aspect of SimSig. Working on Carlisle with my own timetable.

Once you have downloaded and installed the system files, run the loader and click on the "Check for Updates" button. This will download all of the simulations compatible with the loader (i.e. only a couple of older sims in the .exe format will not come down automatically). Carlisle will come down with this download. Some simulations are payware and require you to purchase a licence from the Shop then allocate the licence to your machine using the Licence Manager. However, before you buy a licence you can run the sim from the loader for a short "taste and try" session to see what the sim is like. Carlisle is donationware so you are free to run it without purchasing a licence.
