Train 5Z77 in the attached sim is too long to fit between signal 195 and 142 hence I set a route into the Ocean siding for it, but this route is not accepted: wrong route, not booked via Ocean siding.

The DG, however, is an acceptable route. Is this intentional or should trains be able to shunt partly into the Ocean siding?

The Ocean Siding has been out of use for many years now. The track that remains is in a very poor condition, heavily overgrown and strewn with Network Rail's discarded rubbish.

You shouldn't be sending trains into the Ocean Siding in a 2015 timetable. When we do east end shunts at Laira in real life, and are sent out "by the water" (behind 142) if we need to pass 195 signal we are routed out "on the straight" (the goods line) towards P495. I imagine that's the route the sim expects you to use.

Indeed, having just tried it, the sim does indeed expect you to route the move up to P495.

Out of interest, you can just about fit a class 08 and two Mark 3 coaches between P195 and P142. Anything longer than that needs to be routed past P195 towards P495 to get it to fit behind P142.

Thanks, I found that the fifth image on http://www.cornwallrailwaysociety.org.uk/latest-input--news--old-pictures-etc/31st-august-2020 shows the situation rather clearly. Makes sense that you can't route anything that way!

Would it be acceptable as a headshunt in earlier eras?

I'm not 100% sure when exactly Ocean Siding was put out of use, but I know it was in use in 1994, as that's where they stored a lot of Class 50s that had recently been withdrawn.

As Ocean Siding is a location in the sim, it would be perfectly acceptable for TT writers and players to put trains in there if the siding was in use at the time. I'll try to find out exactly when it was put out of use.

When I first maintained Plymouth in 2012 it was out of use and had been for a while.
