Hi,

This is for a non-SimSig projects that I can't talk about much right now, but hopefully you'll find it interesting if it ever happens!

I'm interested in any *passenger* timetables — public, working, supplements, or otherwise — for Summer 1955 (June-September). If anyone has any they want to sell, please let me know! I'd also be interested in scans or loans for the purposes of photographing; though most of the main timetables at least I can do through the National Archives (see below). I'm less interested in freight at this time though I'd still probably buy one if available for a cheap price, in case this should change!

I'm particularly interested in working timetables missing from the list below, or in London Underground public or working timetables covering this period; or indeed any other GB railway that might have been operating passenger services at the time (not that I believe there were many, besides a couple of narrow gauge heritage operations!).

I currently own the following:

Public timetables:

Eastern Region
London Midland Region
Southern Region (on order)
Western Region

(Other BR ones available on Timetable World, so I'm not interested in scans of these, only physical copies if you are willing to sell. Any London Underground public timetables would be appreciated though.)

Working Timetables:

Eastern Region sections D, H, J, K, L, N, O, and a supplement to O valid on Sundays from 10th July 1955.

London Midland Region Central Division Section A
London Midland Region Midland Division Sections A-E
London Midland Region Western Division Sections A-D, G

North Eastern Region sections D, E, F, H, and Supplement #2

Southern Region London Central Division Section B
Southern Region London East Division Sections A-D (I have two copies of A and D if anyone is looking to buy)
Southern Region London West Division Sections A, B, and Supplement #1
Southern Region London section WL (West London Line)

Western Region section A

I also have these currently photographed from the National Railway Museum archive, but physical copies would still be appreciated more:

London Midland Region Central Division Sections B-F

Western Region Sections B-D and A&B Supplements #1 and #2

Finally I have active plans to photograph many of the available timetables from the National Archives in Kew this coming Saturday. However, notably missing from their collection is all of the Scottish Region (which ARE available in Scotland if worst comes to worst, but I'd need to take a day off work for that as they aren't open Saturdays), and all of the North Eastern Region (I don't know if there's any local archives I might be able to find this in; I don't think it's in the NRM which is where I'd expect to find it).

Of course if anyone has any particular interest in any of these that I already own, I'm happy to digitise them, just let me know! I'm similarly happy to share copies made from archives. I won't ask for anything in return.

I'm considering making a Peterborough 1955 timetable to chain with the existing King's Cross 1955 timetable. Do you have the data for that?

Certainly not all of it, for instance I don't have anything covering the ECML. I might have something for some of the branches though if that interests you. Specifically ER Section H contains Peterborough North—Spalding, ER Section J contains the Cambridge line branches including Peterborough East—March, and LMR Central Division Section A contains the line from Manton to Peterborough. I'm missing ER Section A which would contain the ECML services through Peterborough, but am happy to provide photographs of the relevant tables of the other three WTTs if those would be useful for you! And of course if my visit to Kew this weekend goes well I should have photographic copies of Section A, so I think that would complete it for you?

While not exactly what you need. WTTreprints on Ebay do a full set of Eastern and NE 1953 Summer WTTs which as a backup should be matchable to the public TT.

I personally would agree that wttrepinter is a good way to get some wtts. I bought a few off of him and they are alot cheaper than some of my eBay purchases. He also has some carriage working diagrams, loco diagrams and station arrival and departure books too.

As regards matching up, you would have to get dates as close as possible to each other. I've been comparing yard arrivals and departures between winter 1952, winter 1953 and winter 1956 on two forums on group.io, and you would be amazed at the differences between 1953 and 1956. The BR era did see a lot of changes, and depending on the area, some were quite enormous.

Yep. For this project though it's not vital for my main goal that I have the WTTs, they're just a "nice to have" for adding certain points of clarity etc., so if they're not exactly the right WTTs I probably won't bother trying to match them up to passenger timetables. I've certainly seen difficulties in matching up CWNs etc. that are only one or two timetable period out during periods of heavy change (eg early privatisation), so I don't really fancy attempting the same thing with WTTs and public timetables in a similarly volatile period.

Yeah I know the pain. Matching up loco diagrams when it's changed alot is a bit of a head scratcher. To be honest, I do find it not a bad way to spend an evening, if I'm in the mood for it.
I'll have a look through my wtt collection and let you know.

Biggest thing I'm missing is Statford Suburban District freight diagrams. If anyone knows of any way of finding/borrowing/stealing some, I'd be intrested to hear.
