Afternoon, I've started working on a Winter 1999 TT for Doncaster Station. I have encountered a problem at the RMT (I though id best tackle these trains 1st as they have shunts and drop off and pick up portions and will be the most complicated bit of the of the TT). Going through the Simplifier for Doncaster RMT 1E47 2037 Willesden to Low Fell runs into the North Bound Platform in the South Platform there is a loco waiting to attach to 1E47 and this shunts off 4 vans. The loco is stood at D223 Signal I cant see anything in the TT Data to allow the loco to move from the south end the platform to the north to join to the vans. Can any of the developers assist with this issue or if I have done something wrong likewise advise if I am missing something. Regards, 0D07 Log in to reply |

Okay Fella, I'm not a dev, but I do have some timetabling experience. Do you have a save from 5 minutes before the 1E47 arrives to share so we can have a look at the issue. Without looking at your specific issue and following a little playing around it seems like there is not an option for what you want to do, the validation will not allow a route from one platform of a station to another of the same station, it may be possible for the Devs to allow this as a valid route, as I'm not a dev I don't know if this would need to be changed in the sim or the core code given it is the same station. But let's hope it's a sim fix that would to allow a route from RMT NTH to RMT STH platforms, Devs in the past have expressed to me that it's a compromise with shunt routes as to what to include and what to not, given that this is not an obscure manoeuvre I'd expect that if it's possible that they'd add it. In the mean time let's think about workarounds, Does the loco need to arrive before 1E47? Can the loco instead be held outside at South Decoy Can the loco exit the station to Reverse at South Decoy before re-entering the station? Would you accept having a note in the train's note instructing the player to tell the loco to shunt forward after 1E47 arrives and the D223 dummy is showing a proceed aspect?* *I've noticed trains with a final location of Doncaster RMT will terminate-reverse by default in the South platform, this may cause issues with this manoeuvre The train now standing on platform 2, should be on the rails Log in to reply The following user said thank you: 0D07 |

In essence the "drivers" in SimSig aren't smart enough to work out what to do when stopped at a location, and the next location in the list is the same location - even if it were made valid the train still wouldn't budge; hence why it is left as an invalid combo. That's a very fundamental part of the core code and likely cannot be changed without severe consequences elsewhere. I've left a suggestion with the developer on how a compromise could be done. That compromise would basically be to create two "new" locations at the RMT – an RMT North and RMT South. These would force trains to only use one half of the RMT or the other. As join/next/divide activities have to always take place at the same location to work there would be a cascade effect where if it ended up being included and you used it, any associated trains would also need to have their timetables changed to RMT North/South as appropriate. Working within the limitations of the sim is part of the challenge, it has been for years. Sheffield platforms 1A & 1B have the same isssue and was brought up during development. Compromises sometimes have to be made to achieve a goal, the simple solution is to have the second loco waiting on the RMT loop and after 1E47s arrival reverse it at Decoy Sth Jn to back onto the train Passed the age to be doing 'Spoon Feeding' !!! You should use Decoy South (Rev) and Decoy North (Rev) for run round movements at the RMT. They are in the locations list. Look at the 2019 TT for example where you have a fair few Run rounds for Decoy Down reception sdgs. They all use the Decoy South and North Rev for this purpose and it works for the RMT as well
