I think position 1 reads to the Down Filton Main, position 2 to the Up Bristol Loop (or the Rhubarb as we called it in the panel) and position 3 to the Down Bristol Loop. Posttion 1 is very common, 3 fairly common and 2 almost never unless you are sending something round the Marsh. Kev Log in to reply |

The diversion of London Paddington - South Wales trains via. Lawrence Hill, Bath Spa & Chippenham was indeed the cause. The diversion was due to flooding in the Chipping Sodbury tunnel. Trains called additionally at Patchway where passengers for Bristol Parkway were put onto coaches. Dave Log in to reply |

" said:Burngullow Burngullow Junction does still exist as a structure, but was abolished 04-Oct-1986: the area is now worked from a panel in the box at Par. I think you were not far off though: my guess for Stephen's photo is Goonbarrow Junction which is on the line between Par and Newquay. I would make a guess also that the train is a London Paddington - Newquay seasonal service. The picture that confirms my thinking is this one: http://daverowland.smugmug.com/RAILWAYS/Railways-2010-1/Camborne-Hayle-Redruth-10-May/17799731_VRVdwn#!i=1360274611&k=fgZRjSB SF's photo was evidently taken from an elevated position and in the photo linked to above there is a signal bracket visible in part on the left hand side of the photo. Good photo, SF. Dave Last edited: 19/05/2012 at 23:30 by DaveHarries Log in to reply |

Dave, you are correct. The photo was taken yesterday from the box itself.

One place I do know, though not the name, is between Singapore station and Woodlands where our train had a token exchange with another, with a leverframe signalbox open onto the platform.
