Hi,

Just starting out, and I chose Royston seeing as thats the simulation most people recomend to get started with. I am having a probelm getting the first train of the day (5R96) into Royston platform 1. It keeps getting stuck at signal K977 and I have no idea how to change it to green so it can continue on. I have the points set to switch it to platform 1 but im stuck behind this damn signal!

Thanks
Lucas

Daft question - are you setting the route by clicking on one signal and then the next signal on the route you want the train to follow? The points should automatically set if the route is set from signal to signal.

Remember that you need to click on the signal in the direction you are travelling - around Royston station each line has different signals depending on whether you are signalling in the up or down direction.

As John points out, take care to get the right signals at the right hand end of P1. The route you need is K977 to K983, make sure it's not K984.
I've (temporarily) put a screen shot at:
http://www.SimSig.co.uk/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=andysandpit:usertrack:mans:royston:route
Which shows what you should have once the route is set.
Whilst doing this, I noticed what may be the confusion. Although the route is set (as the stem of 977 has turned white), the signal doesn't turn green immediately, as it is "Approach controlled", which means it only turns green when the train approaches it, to ensure the train slows to go over the crossover.
Hope this helps.
PS See http://www.SimSig.co.uk/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=andysandpit:usertrack:glossary:approach_control for a guide

If you want to see how others do it, think about joining a multiplayer session. Keep your eyes on the Hosting section of the Forum where someone will post that they are running a session of one of the bigger sims for multiplay. There is no need to take on a panel or a view until you are confident in what you are doing but most hosts are glad to let a newcomer sit and watch.

To join in, you first have to be connected to the internet. You then have to load up the sim and click on Network Play on the splash screen at the start. You select "client" and enter the IP address and port as given in the Hosting notice on the forum and with any luck you get connected. You can pass messages back and forth using the F10 button (but remember to select the check box for sending messages to others on the same sim before you try and send your first message).

Have fun.

Lucas,
No problem, would just echo John's comments; you can learn more in one session of mplay than a week of trying by yourself, most hosts are only too happy to help 'newbies'. Just let the host know, and the'll look after you.
Also keep the questions coming, it helps us to provide the help that's needed.

It's also prompted me to sort out the tutorial TT I've produced for Royston.
