While altering the T/T

0E05 needs altering to S143REV
1E38 to platform 1B & 1V50 to platform 1A (Postals always used P1)

S143REV can also be used for stabling units from the bays (sticky note memo)

4E05 time for Aldewark needs to be made a passing time

Passed the age to be doing 'Spoon Feeding' !!!

4E05 also needs dep time from Sheffield altered to 03.17. I sussed out why it was 02.10 - That's the dep time for 5E05 detachment to US1.

Had trouble joining 5M38 to 4M38. The loco off 4M38 (0M38-1) sticks out from the DSS when joining to 5E01 so needs authorising to proceed. But when it backs on to 4M38 in P2 to rejoin it didn't join trains. Maybe need to look at reducing length on 5E01.

Moonraker, Meld & I spent thsi afternoon re-working various Passenger & Parcels trainsin the Sheffield 83-83 timetable. 4E05 & 4M38 have both been fixed. HE TRAINS ON THE Down have been done & some of the trains o the Up have been done. Expect a new version e-mailed to you over the next day or two. Also AndyG, will send you a copy of your V2.3 where we have altered these trains after Meld & a friend of his who was a shunter at Sheffield Midland station for a long time have confirmed how each train was shunted & re-formed. The trains altered reflect how this was actually done. Hopefully should be done in the next few days, subject to how much work we get through each day.

Working the splits out for SimSig after talking to the shunter was fun but one or two interesting little bits did come from it

Commencing from the closure of The Woodhead and Darnall sheds changeover to C&W in 81to Tinsleys closure DMUS were formed into a maximum of 12 cars for ECS moves to Tinsley Servicing shed in the yard - Shefields Fuelling point wasnt upgraded till Tinsleys Closure

As the completed their days work they would arrive onto either P6/8 be marshalled up and ran direct via the Up main to Nunnery ML Jcn - Woodburn Jcn and so to Tinsley for fuel, normally returning via Brightside Jcn into P2 for splitting and replatforming for the next mornings work..

In the 80's Sheffield had 3 station pilot duties - 1 worked Nunnery CS the other 2 the station itself one from the 'Fishdock' (bottom of 2 inputs @ HS) and the other was the Northend pilot which normally stabled in U2N or at the end of the centre siding behind S144

Longest location in the station for joining was DSS max 12 vehicles and loco

More little gems from this period next time he visits

I think I may have a solution for 5E01. When it chanages to 5M38 I noticed that the length is different. I think it says 87 metres. But by my reckoning 3 Parcels Vans + Class 47 equals about 80 metres max.

5E01 should be a Cl.31/1, which is the same length as a Mk.1, bogie mail/parcel/newspaper van = 17m. Therefore the total length of 1E01/5E01 should be 4 x 17m = 68m in totoal. Don't know where the Cl.47 came from unless AndyG has changed it. Cl.47 length is = 19m.

Gents,
I have just tried playing this TT and am finding it both enjoyable and frustrating. It is a busy TT with lots of shunts (just the way I like it) but I am finding many faults in the TT and the general operation of the sim seems to go haywire from time to time, but only when running this TT. Here are some fo the issues I am encountering:-

Platform allocation irregularities at Sheffield
EG: Train 1 on platform 1B to depart at 0930hrs
Train 2 arriving allocated to PL1B but will block departure of Train 1
This happens many times at Sheffield

Trains "jumping over" each other at Sheffield
IE: Train admitted to occupied bay platform then F2 shows it on the blocks.

Loco's detaching from the wrong end.

Trains arriving at Sheffield to form another service then gets TRTS way early.
F2 then shows the original train still at its origin point.

Trains departing from locations before they have arrived (same train on territory twice)
EG: Train 1-A from say Hexthorpe to Tinsley still enroute to Tinsley when Train 1-B calls
ready to depart Tinsley.

Multiple occurrences of the same train.

Trains terminating with no next service.

Trains changing direction for no reason (here is a specifi example I can give)
0E00-1 ex Earles Sdg to Tinsley scheduled to dwell at Dore Stn Jn.
0E00-1 then phones in delayed at signal 55 (which faces the Up direction)
0E00-2 does the same thing.

On another note, 0E00-1 and 0E00-2 have exactly the same schedule.

I appreciate writing a TT is a difficult thing and this is not meant to be a criticism. Maybe I should have written down all errors with specific details so the authors can work on it. Are the authors already working on an updated version? Have any of these problems been found already?

As I said, it is a great TT.

Not fat ..... fluffy!! (G Iglesias)

Mattyq, Just to let you know that the version currently on the download section is version 1. Some of us have been updating & improving this timetable over the past couple of months, whereb alot of the issues you have raised have been resolved. I finished last night updating the freight side with at least 20+ additional freight trains added which aren't in this version. Please bear with me on this. Shouldn't be too long before the final version is released.

Ozzyd901, glad you like it even though there were a whole lot of issues. We've have been working on sorting all the issues out for the last 6 weeks or more. The latest news I can give is this. I've finished the 'specials' part of the timetable which is about 160 trains to add to the main timetable. We also managed to obtain a Sheffield 1983-1984 Station Working Book' so all the platforming issues have been solved along with all the attaching & detaching of Parcel, Mail, Newspaper & loco hauled services. Also since that version was released I have obtained 2 Working timetables covering freight train services between Chesterfield & Barnt Green & the Hope Valley line, as a result some 20 odd additional freight trains that weren't in that version have also been added & the remainder re-timed as necessary. What the end result should provide the end user is as near to accurate simulation of what Sheffield PSB controlled in that year. We have been over the last week playing a multi-player version & sorting out any issues that have arisen. However that didn't include the Specials part of the timetable. 'Specials' timetable is all the trains with 'Z' headcodes. It is hoped from theis weekend o start again with all the parts of the timetable merged into the main timetable & a multi-plyer will be launched to run through that whole timetable. Once we have sorted out any finals issues I anticipate the long awaited release will occur within the next 10-14 days if all goes well.

One thing to point out to everyone interested in this forth coming timetable, & this is the opinion of those who have been testing it during multiplay sessions is that this timetable is best suited for multi-player sessions as opposed to single player. Bearing in mind that the muti-player test session has not yet used the full timetable. Ths last missing section to add is the 'specials' section of the timetable which has around 160 additional trains in it. Also 90-odd% of the trains in this section actually ran that year. Information obtained from 'The Chesterfield Observers' website, thanks to Kevin Law for that, who incidentally was someone I worked with in Nottingham Control for Mainline Freight. I'm not saying you can't play it as a single player, but with al the shunting, loco run rounds, loco changes & such like in this timetable things begin to get very intense after 0600am, both on screen 6 & screen 2. Whilsy I am the author of this timetable I would just like to advise everyone that both Meld & AndyG have both put alot of time & effort into this timetable in both the editing of trains & sorting out various issues with trains particularly with the DMU, Mail, Parcels, Newspaper, loco hauled & local services, whereas I concentrated on the freight side of the timetable & also not forgetting NoisyNoel who has also had an input in this timetables creation. Several Official publications have gone into the making of this timetable & thes are listed as follows:-
Working Timetables
Section YE WTT of Passenger & Parcels train services between Chesterfield to York & branches 16th May, 1983 to 14th May, 1984.
Section YJ WTT Freight train services in Doncaster, Sheffield & Leeds Districts. 01st October, 1984 to 12th May, 1985.
Section CX WTT Freight train services between Chesterfield & Barnt Green, Heyford, Stratford Upon Avon & Birmingham 16th May, 1983 to 13th May, 1984.
Section CY WTT Freight trains services between Crewe, Manchester & Mouldsworth, North Stafford & branches, Dore, Briggs Sdgs & Manchester, Staylbridge, Edgeley No.2, Ditton & Allerton 16th May, 1983 to 13th May, 1984.
Tinsley Yard Trip Workings sheet from 1985(this was the nearest to date we could get).
Sheffield Station Working Book 1983-1984 which gives details of platforming at Sheffield, train composition of Mail, Parcels & Newspaper trains, including details of what portions split to attach to other trains, Unit & HST diagram numbers & ECS workings. A very valuable document for creating this timetable. A very big thank you to a friend of John(Meld) for obtaining a copy of it for us.

Once we have finished our current multi-player test which is about three quarters of the way through & resolved any issues we will then run a full test with the full timetable content which will include the 'specials' section of the timetable. Once that is complete & any further issues solved, then expect the timetable to be uploaded for general release. Thanks to everyone for being patient & for there interest in this timetable.

Unfortunately chaps Meld is still offline. I have had internet problems also this week. As a result the Sheffield testing has been put back. However when Meld is back online & that hopefully won't be too long testing on this timetable will re-commence. Sorry to all those waiting for the release.

Yesterday whilst playing a multi-player with John(Meld) at his house we have now decided thst when Sheffield V.3 is ready to be released it will be done so users can download individual days(e.g. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday etc.). The freight & Specials part of the timetable will be amended for each individual weekday, along with whatever other services ran on that specific day. The reason for this is to avoid train description issues where there could be 2 trains on the panel at the same time with identical head-codes, but in reality these trains ran on diffrent days. For those of you awaiting the next multiplayer test online, that will occur when Meld is back online. At present he is wairing for a fault at the exchange to be rectified, having said that the people tasked with sorting this out seem to be dragging their heels a bit. Can't say yet what day will be done for the multiplayer test though. With 2 of us playing it for some 5 hours yesterday, we did struggle a bit at times each of us covering 3 screens each. When this timetable is released it is going to be recommended for multi-player use only with a minimum of 1 hosting & 3 people covering 2 screens each. Believe you me it is nigh on impossible to keep top side of it. Those of you who may attempt to play it on their own & I am going to try it, the best speed setting after about 0600 would be the slowest so you can keep up with all the shunting, loco changes, run rounds & shunting that is occuring on 4 out of the 6 screens at the same time (screens 1, 2, 5 & 6). Hopefully the waiting will soon be over. Many thanks for your patience & support.
