Hi all,

No issues here - everything just worked.

The new fonts are excellent, and I like the new train lists and other menu alterations.

I have nothing to moan and carp about - am I alone?

There is no specific log out from the license manager, I don't know if exiting the loader automatically logs out and then logs in again when the loader is opened or if the login remains.

There is no specific license manager on the loader screen , to manage licenses you have to click on Start new Simulation which is hardly intuitive.

I do like the design of the new timetable view in general — I particularly like how activities are now shown much more clearly. So many times I've misread an activity or whatever. Now it's much less easy to misread or miss entirely. Monospaced time columns would still be nice but that's ultimately something I can grumble slightly and live with.

For me, whilst the actual upgrade process went like clockwork, like others, initially the new launcher did not show any of my licences. I then logged in using the login name and password boxes on the launcher and although initially it would not recognise my user name (which I double-checked was correct) when I cleared the login name box and tried again and entered my password, login was successful and all my licences were shown (green signal alongside each one) and all SEEMS to be OK.

My first thought was however: "Oh great, I've got to login now every time I want to play have I (harrumph)" but closing and reopening the launcher seems to do that automatically now.

Whilst I have to agree somewhat with the negative comments by others about the 'whopper hamburger' menu which has become very popular recently on recent software versions and mobile phone versions of certain web sites, it seems to be the way everything is going nowadays. And when all is said & done, I can work with it and accept it.

My only real gripe now is, how much longer until the new sims are released? ;)

My grateful thanks to all who put so much hard work into V5 - and the new sims - whenever they appear!

I will obviously get used to it in time, but the new timetable popup window display is going to be a bit of a challenge until I do. I play all sims without ARS (including 3 bridges) so rely on being able to absorb routing information for a train in a fraction of a second as I know exactly where and what to look for. It will take slightly longer to absorb the information until I get used to the new UI but I suspect it will be an improvement once I do.
I run most of of my sims without ARS (TB and the large south London sims excepted) and like Dick I too rely a lot on the timetable pop-up window, and this is my only issue with loader v5. I run sims over 4 monitors so with most I have some spare real estate to keep some windows open permanently, the TT pop-up being one. I normally open it at the start and move it to a convenient free-space location along the bottom or to one side of a sim and size it accordingly to avoid vertical scrolling if possible. With v5 however, it is not possible to do this, because every time you click on a train a new popup appears, in the middle of one of the screens, often obscuring the train/trains I may be focussing on. Would it be possible, either now or in a future loader update, to -

a) create a user-controlled feature to disable new TT pop-up windows when one is already open, and, as before, to have the window that is open update to the train you have just clicked on?
b) remember the TT pop-up window location on the screen if it is closed and reopened as used to be the case?

Aside from this issue, which for now I'll just have to get used to, the install worked first time for me and everything else looks good.

Phil.

you login to the server each time the loader is opened. closing it logs you out.

no less intuitive than having to open the license manager from within the loader under V4 which still required one click the same as it does now, hence exaclty the same amount of input/effort to access licence management, except everything is managed in one single program and dynamic licensing is now possible.

If you go into the F3 options, there's an option to disable multiple TT windows opening.

You are joking of course. Previously one had an explicit license manager to manage licenses (intuitive), now licences are manged by the wholly unintuitive option of clicking a button to start a new sim. Its not the number of clicks involved, its how obvious those clicks are.

Thanks Steamer, I hadn't spotted that. That addresses both points mentioned in that bullet point. Excellent!

Thanks again,

For 99.99% of users, there's now no need to have a license manager, they simply log in and away they go.

Except if they want to manage their licenses of course.
As previously stated, there is no option to actually log out either. You are either permanently logged in to the server whilst the loader is open or you have to delete username or password, exit the loader and re-launch to log out.
Does the login persist once a sim is selected and the loader closes?

Didnt realise that IM used SimSig when they got lost, or that you could fit so many monitors in the Carriage

But realistically how often are you going to need to manage them now? I haven't touched the V5 licence manager in the last month or so of testing at all apart from to specifically test it. Everything just runs for me on multiple devices without the need to allocate/unallocate.

Totally agree, but my point still remains, it is not intuitive if required. In fact it is more important to be obvious how to do something when it is rarely used than if it was often used.

I will keep my comments short with a couple of observations.

(N.B. some or all of these may be a Wine thing, but, for what they're worth).

I notice on Manchester East the formerly red exit arrows at Stalybridge are now white, is that deliberate?

On the F4 timetable list ½ in the entry time appears as an italic y?

I do notice that, the new show timetable window seems to take a tiny bit longer to load up. It may only be on the order of half a second, but it adds up when you're trying to make regulating decisions on a larger sim.

i actually do think the fonts look pretty nice (apart from the ½ issue)

The change in exit arrow colour was deliberate to the best of my knowledge.

The italic "Y" is interesting, does your wine installation have access to "Microsoft Sans Serif"

Erm...

No idea I'm afraid! But if it's just me I'm not too bothered by it, I know what it means and it doesn't even happen in the show timetable window, but I thought it might be worth mentioning in case it wasn't just me

I see the same has happened on Staffordshire. Noted as Mantis 30861 (East) and 30862 (Staffordshire). Not deliberate, and will have no effect in play-ability. Shall be sorted for the next update.

It was noted above that Geoff will be looking into the issue today. But in all honesty the data usage of SimSig is tiny in comparison to other things.
