Available Simulations

This is a list of all the simulations released by SimSig, classed according to approximate difficulty. It’s always advised to start with Royston, but beyond that there is no set play order- have a look through the pages, see which one you like the look of and have a go! ARS simulations (with the exception of the smaller ones) are categorised separately, as your control area is as large or small as you want it to be in those simulations. Please don’t feel as if you have to play through all the simulations in a certain class to progress to the next. You’re perfectly welcome to jump in with King’s Cross- but that’s not recommended! Equally, experienced players shouldn’t be put off by Beginner simulations- with failures and delays turned on, they can still prove a challenge!

To make a fair comparison, difficulty ratings are based on the default modern (if appropriate) timetable supplied with the simulation. Obviously, the timetable has a large impact on difficulty- Sunday timetables tend to be easier, timetables with diversions harder, while any timetable set before the millennium is likely to have lots of loco changes.

A tabulated version of these pages is available here .

Detailed simulation manuals can be found on this page .

A geographical map, showing lines simulated by SimSig, can be found here .

N.B. Within each class, simulations are arranged alphabetically, not by relative difficulty.

Beginner

These simulations have a fairly small control area and most are controlled by one person in real life. Some simulations also feature Automatic Route Setting and are good simulations to get used to that facility.

Intermediate

The middle category- you’ll find a range of complexities in the category, so it’s a good idea to click around to find a simulation to suit you. Some are good for moving on from Beginner, others are a stepping-stone to Pro.

Pro

What? Not impressed by the simulations above? Try these!

ARS

These simulations all contain Automatic Route Setting (ARS), and as such you can control as much, or as little, as you like.
